M20 slip-road on A249 at Maidstone for Junction 7 for Detling to be closed another week

A motorway slip-road, shut for urgent barrier repairs, is set to remain closed for another week.

There have been long delays due to the roadworks at the A249 roundabout at Junction 7 of the M20 for Detling near Maidstone.

The slip-road leading from Bearsted Road onto the London-bound carriageway of the motorway was closed suddenly since last Tuesday.

It had been hoped work would be completed yesterday, but today National Highways confirmed it would likely take until Monday, March 21.

The agency explained it was working to improve the sub-standard barrier which is past its design life.

Traffic can still get onto the M20 at the junction, by going around the roundabout, but the closure has caused tailbacks during rush-hour.
