Kent 400m hurdler Jack Green was in no mood to pull any punches after his World Athletics Championships individual debut ended in 'embarrassment' with a semi-final exit.

Despite his tender years Green has a level of ambition akin to his towering frame and declared before the championships kicked off that anything less than an appearance in the final would be a disappointment.

Having still managed to qualify comfortably for the semi-final despite smashing the final hurdle in his heat Green was still brimming with confidence heading into the battle for the eight final berths.

However in his semi-final the Kent ace was unable to find the form that saw him bag the European Under-23 crown earlier this summer and crashed out, ending fifth in a time of 49.62 seconds.

And having set his sights so high heading into Daegu Green was not about to mince his words in assessing his performance.

"It was embarrassing," said Green. It was a waste of my time and the team's money and I'm not happy at all.

"I'm really disappointed because I shouldn't have been beaten. I messed up at hurdle seven but that is not to abnormal for me but in general I felt like I got into it a lot better.

"I got a telling of from my coach Malcolm Arnold after the heat who said that it was the worst run that I've ever done in my life.

"So I really worked at getting in the race. I felt in it and I felt I worked better and I still came home strong but for some reason I wasn't there. I am a little confused and really, really annoyed. I'm better than that but I managed to not run quick on the major stage which is even more embarrassing."
