More than 10,000 people attended the event, organised in partnership with Maidstone council, Cohesion Plus, the Kent Equality Cohesion Council and local community groups.

It showcased music from all around the globe and, to coincide with the climax of the Paralympics, a visit from the Maidstone Rebels Wheelchair Basketball Club and local runner Joshua Taylor.

Highlights included performances by Steel Ambition, the Maidstone Nepalese Community Group, the Four by Four Bhangra and DJ Paul Aaron, with headline acts a Jessie J tribute and the Magnificent Motown.

Gurvinder Sandher, artistic director of Cohesion Plus, said: “I have worked on the Mela for the last 10 years and am really proud of what we have managed to achieve.”
