Iggy the Iguanodon in Bearsted, Maidstone covered in Union flags ready for King Charles III’s coronation

With the coronation of the new monarch around the corner one statue has been spotted dressed for the occasion.

Named “Iggy the Iguanodon”, the sculpture which sits on the a grassy knoll off the A20 roundabout in Bearsted, has been adorned tip to tail in union flags and has even been masked with a portrait of King Charles III to welcome him officially to the throne.

It has become a popular online craze to dress-up this dinosaur for every occasion, with a Facebook group sharing every new ensemble.

People have taken to social media to share Iggy’s new outfit and to express the enjoyment of seeing him at his patriotic best.

Roger Hurst said: “Wonderful. Thank you so much to the person(s) who do this. A great idea and a real boost on the main road.”

Caz Smith added: “Brilliant always makes me smile when I'm stuck at the traffic lights. Thank you.”

Joe McAneney said: “Seeing Iggy all dressed up. He is a true icon of this town and whoever dresses him is a star.”
