A husky which was seen running along live railway tracks was saved by police last night.

Officers from British Transport Police (BTP), Kent Police and Network Rail rescued the dog after a member of the public saw it running down the tracks at Maidstone Barracks station.

When they arrived the dog had unfortunately come into contact with the live rail and ran off into some foliage.

It was later found by dog handlers hiding in a bush scared, but otherwise unharmed, before being taken to vets for a check up.

BTP Kent tweeted: "Tonight officers had the pleasure of retrieving this beautiful husky off the tracks at Maidstone Barracks, after a member of the public called police after seeing it running down the tracks.

"Officers arrived the dog was seen on the tracks and unfortunately came into contact with the live rail and ran off into some foliage, thankfully dog handlers found her hiding in a bush scared but otherwise unharmed.

"She was taken to the emergency vets for a check up."

While Network Rail added: "Thank you to our friends at BTP Kent and to whoever called them for saving the life of this beautiful dog.

"We're so glad the story ended happily."
