Maidstone Hospital receives first Christmas tree in 20 years, unveiled by Maidstone mayor Dave Naghi

Patients and staff were treated to the first Christmas tree at Maidstone Hospital in 20 years.

Around 40 people turned out to see the momentous occasion when the lights were switched on and enjoyed mince pies and a performance by a silver band.

Mayor of Maidstone Dave Naghi came along on Tuesday, December 11 for the spectacle.

The tree was donated courtesy of The League of Friends of Maidstone Hospital who support the facility with funds raised in the on site shop.

The organisation’s chairman, Gareth Owen, said: “It’s the first time that the hospital has had a proper outside Christmas tree for over 20 years.

“It’s right there for everybody to see and it looks very nice. The hospital are glad to have a tree and we’re glad to have provided it.”

A trust spokesperson said: “We really appreciate all the support from the Maidstone Hospital League of Friends who fund extremely important work all year round.

"The tree they have generously donated this year is helping to spread the Christmas joy around our hospital and to the many staff and patients who will be working and visiting the Trust over the festive period”

As well as seasonal decorations,The League of Friends has provided hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of equipment over the last year including a £268,000 surgical laser.
