Hamer gets revenge for Detling defeat

Tonbridge and Sevenoaks pair Jen Hamer and Andy Combs won their first senior titles in the Kent Schools Cross Country Championships at Mote Park,Maidstone on Saturday.

The two victories came in contrasting style, Hamer beating Dunia Pavlovic from Tunbridge Wells, and team-mate Vicky Rukin in a complete reversal of the finishing order in the County Under-17 race at Detling a week earlier. Only 16 seconds covering all three medallists.

Under-17 champion Combs finished over a minute ahead of more experienced pair Sam Murphy of Dartford and Frank Kilama of Bexley. Around 600 athletes took part in the event with Tonbridge and Sevenoaks and Maidstone both claiming nine medals, including four gold.

Amber Reed of West Kent followed up her Kent County Under-15 success by winning the junior girls race, and Billy Somogi from Bexley took the junior boys title.

Rebecca Weston of St Augustines improved on her county bronze medal, by winning the intermedaite girls, and Detling silver medallist Josh Bentham of Tunbridge Wells went one better in the boys event.

Bobby Clay of South East Kent and Alex Kidd of Maidstone won the respective year seven non championship races.
