Gurkha dies on training exercise

A GURKHA based in Maidstone has died on an Army exercise in the Blue Bell Hill area.

Cpt Benuprasad Limbu, 39, a married father of two, died shortly after midday yesterday. He was a member of 70 Squadron of the 36 Engineer Regiment, based at Invicta Barracks.

A spokesman for the Army said: “He was taking part in a training march yesterday when he collapsed. He was taken to Medway Hospital.

“He was still alive then but he was pronounced dead about half an hour later.”

Cpt Limbu collapsed at about 11am. The spokesman added: “We are carrying out a full investigation into his death.”

The death is not being treated as suspicious, it has been confirmed. A post mortem is expected to be carried out tomorrow.
