Flooding possible in Maidstone, Tunbridge Wells and Tenterden as water levels rise in the River Medway and Rother

Three flood alerts have been issued in parts of Kent after heavy rainfall overnight.

The Environment Agency is warning people in Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells to be prepared for flooding as levels in the upper and lower River Medway remain high.

The River Rother also has an alert in place near Tenterden.

This comes after the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for heavy rain yesterday for the whole of Kent and the south of England.

The alert says, flooding of roads and low lying land is expected between 8am and 4pm particularly between Wateringbury and Maidstone, and around Lock Meadow and the town centre.

In Tunbridge Wells the risk of flooding remains for the next six hours around Balls Green and Ashurst.

The Environment Agency says levels of the Upper River Medway in the area are falling, but still pose a risk until 4pm.

Near Tenterden, low lying roads and footpaths are at risk but properties should be unaffected as river levels decline during the day.

The weather forecast is expected to remain dry between now and Sunday, when further heavy rain is expected.
