Fire service called to smoking Waitrose van in St Peters Street, Maidstone

A refrigerated supermarket lorry sparked concern in Maidstone this morning after smoke started billowing from underneath it.

The Waitrose vehicle came to a stop in St Peter's Street just before 10am with police and the fire brigade attending and closing one lane.

A plume of smoke billowed across the gyratory on the approach to St Peter's Bridge.

No one was injured and the the fire service, who were on there way back from a false alarm call out, left the scene shortly after 10am.
