Golding Homes asked to replace fence for safety

Young mums have raised concerns about motorists driving onto a communal green space used by playing children.

The area serves flats off Wrangleden Road in Park Wood, Maidstone, owned by Golding Homes.

Elleanor Henry said that the housing association removed a fence that had previously blocked vehicle access to the green last summer.

She said: "Since then some residents of the flats have started driving in to park closer to their flats. But there can be children playing there - and they are not expecting cars to appear."

Mrs Henry has two young children herself: daughters aged six and two.

She said: "I'm afraid there's going to be an accident."

She has raised her concerns directly with some of those who park on the green space, but did not get a very sympathetic response.

Golding Homes manager Georgia Moore last week sent a letter to all the local tenants telling them that vehicles were not permitted in the green, but to little avail.

Mrs Henry said: "We need Golding Homes to put the fence back up. I don't know why they took it away in the first place. The most important thing is to keep the children safe."

A spokesman for Golding Homes said: "The fence was removed last year due to damage and we have a surveyor on site this week looking at options to resolve this matter.

"We understand this is a concern for parents with children playing here and will aim to resolve this swiftly, but in the meantime we have also written to all residents requesting them not to park on the grass."
