A woman was threatened with a handgun-wielding intruder after robbers broke into an Edenbridge home before fleeing with jewellery.

The woman was awoken at around 2am on Tuesday when a group of masked men broke into the home in Four Elms, near Edenbridge.

They entered her bedroom and ordered her out of bed, before stealing jewellery, including men's watches.

She was said to have been threatened by one intruder carrying a black handgun.

Now police hope this CCTV image will help identify a man police want to speak to after the incident.

Det Insp McDermott said: “From entry to exit the offenders took only a few minutes, however they put the family through the most terrifying ordeal.”

He said the robbers then fled on foot to nearby farmland before getting into a getaway car.

Police then chased a dark-coloured 4x4 at speed into Tonbridge, where a man ran off.

"this was a particularly nasty offence with a woman being threatened and robbed in what should have been the sanctity of her own home" – det insp john dermott

The vehicle was found abandoned in Lansdowne Road, Tonbridge, and has since been checked over by forensics experts.

Since the robbery, three men have been arrested and bailed while the investigation continues.

DI McDermott added: “This was a particularly nasty offence with a woman being threatened and robbed in what should have been the sanctity of her own home.

"The family has been left terrified and it will take years for them to come to terms with this matter.

"No-one should be subjected to an ordeal like this.

"I am determined to track down those responsible and bring them to justice, to answer for this despicable offence before a court of law.”

The person in the picture is described as around 6ft 3ins tall and with a thin face, who may be local to the Tonbridge area.

Any witnesses to the offence or who people with information about the man pictured should contact DI John McDermott or DS Andy Nicoll at Kent Police on 101, quoting incident YY/5202/13.
