People from Maidstone's many diverse communities got together to share food and find out more about each other at the weekend.

Voluntary Action Maidstone organised the event, called Who We Are in Maidstone, at the Maidstone Community Support Centre in Marsham Street.

The countries represented included Afghanistan, Bulgaria, China, Nepal, Poland, Turkey, India, Pakistan and Ukraine.

They found out how they could contribute more to Maidstone's community - a few even signed up to take part in the Maidstone Mela cultural festival later in the year - as well as learning what services are on offer for them.

Sue Towns Okorodudu, Voluntary Action Maidstone’s chief executive, said: "There were people from 18 different countries, some of whom brought snacks and food representing their country of origin. It was just great to see how everyone interacted, particularly the children!

"Communities were given the chance to say who they were and a bit about their community which was absolutely fascinating. We were delighted that Dr Usmani, Imam of Maidstone, was able to contribute"
