Maidstone's miserable run in London 1 South continued when they lost 29-10 in a rearranged fixture at Tunbridge Wells.

Stones' hopes were not helped by three late withdrawals due to sickness and injury, but any concerns the Maidstone pack would struggle to hold its own proved unfounded.

Matt Iles produced his best game of the season and made several penetrating runs off the base of the scrum, ultimately producing Maidstone’s only try.

The visitors started at a high tempo and their early pressure paid off when Peter Horne slotted over a penalty from 35 metres.

However, from then on it was one-way traffic as Wells took the lead with Toby May's try. Matt Murtagh converted before Lewis Thorneycroft's touchdown put Maidstone in further trouble, with Murtagh again converting.

A Murtagh penalty and Wells' third try, from Ben Acklam, added to Maidstone's woes and the visitors conceded a fourth score when May went over and Murtagh added the extras.

Maidstone scored a consolation try when Dave Tugwell quickly fed Neil Graves, whose pass to Iles allowed him a free run under the posts. The conversion gave a slightly more respectable look to the final score.
