A Park Wood man faces life in a wheelchair after Maidstone Borough Council took him off the waiting list for a new property.

David Brown, 25, suffers from bowlegs and needs four inches of bone removed from each limb within the next year.

If he does not undergo the operation soon he will be permanently disabled and even if he does he won’t be able to walk for up to four years.

As a result Mr Brown, his children one-year-old Evie-Rose and Davey, three, and partner Amy Jones, 25, will have to move out of their Bell Road flat and into a fully accessible property before the procedure can be booked in.

Mr Brown, who works as a part-time cleaner, has been waiting for the operation for 10 years and initially faced setbacks due to his weight and housing situation.

While he is a Golding Homes tenant the council is responsible for finding him a house through their Home Choice service but insists it needs a date for the operation before it can proceed with the application.

But King’s College Hospital orthopaedic consultant Om Lahoti cannot provide a date until the move has been completed.

A spokesman said: “We are aware of three applications made by Mr Brown through the Home Choice service.

“Unfortunately, despite repeated requests for additional information, we have not received all of the documents required to correctly assess his housing need.

“We are sympathetic to Mr Brown’s circumstances and are more than happy to continue to work with him to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.”

Mr Brown’s mother Caudilia Playford says they are running out of time.

She added: “It’s so frustrating. We’ve tried to explain the situation but the council insists it needs a date.

“He just wants to be able to play football with his kids.”
