Maidstone Magistrates Court broken into despite being next door to police station

A magistrates court has re-opened after brazen thieves broke in over the weekend - despite it being next to a police station.

Kent Police is investigating a burglary which took place at Maidstone Magistrates Court in Palace Avenue at around 5am on Sunday morning.

The burglars stole computer equipment from inside the building. A security guard said the building had been "trashed" when he arrived in the morning.

Enquiries are underway.

The court was closed on Monday, July 8 and all cases that were expected to be heard were moved to Maidstone Crown Court.

Officers are appealing for anyone with information that may assist the investigation to call Kent Police on 01622 604100, quoting reference 08-0201.
