Delays on A229 Fairmeadow, Maidstone, and on gyratory

Drivers are being warned to expect delays due to congestion around the Maidstone Bridges system.

Queues are stretching along the A229 Fairmeadow, heading out of the town, and traffic is backing up into the bridges system, where ongoing roadworks are taking place.

A Kent County Council spokesman said: "There is slow moving traffic between Maidstone Bridges and the White Rabbit Roundabout.

"With traffic queuing back into the Bridge system, expect delays."

Roadworks started on the one-way system last month and will continue until at least November.

The £5.7 million project will see improvements, including additional lanes, aimed at reducing congestion in the town centre.

Despite promising no lane closures during busy periods, lanes were shut during the evening rush hour earlier this month leading to delays.
