Clampers carry on - under a different name

It is 'carry on clamping' for a man behind a company that was made insolvent.

As the KM reported last week, Approved Parking Services run by Craig Reade went bust over non payment of taxes.

As the KM revealed last week, Mr Reade, from East Malling, has four other parking enforcement companies still active in and around Maidstone.

It means he can legally continue his activities and is currently trading as Approved Parking Security Ltd.

The now insolvent Approved Parking Services was wound up for not paying thousands in tax, although Mr Reade claimed it was a sudden back-dated VAT demand that saw him go bust.

And readers have contacted the KM to say Mr Reade is still very much in business, albeit under a different name.

Paula Wilkinson, of Coxheath, said her 19-year-old son's car was clamped while he made a pizza delivery to a pub in Knightrider Street.

"Admittedly he did park illegally in a private car park there. He was only parked there for a matter of minutes and, as he went back to his car, another car zoomed in front of him so he couldn't drive away and the driver proceeded to clamp his car, demanding £125."

They refused a bank card payment, insisting on cash. But Mr Reade said his other clamping companies only asked for cash if there was a problem with the machines that processed card payments.
