Breast Cancer Care Pink Ribbonwalk, in association with KM Media Group, gets underway at Leeds Castle

More than 600 men and women flocked to Leeds Castle this morning to take part in an annual hike in aid of breast cancer.

Breast Cancer Care's Pink Ribbonwalk, which is now in its third year at the site, saw groups heading off on three separate treks around the castle's beautiful grounds.

This time around, actress, presenter and charity ambassador Denise Van Outen also took part, setting off at 12.45pm for the five-mile walk following an impassioned speech to a large crowd.

Speaking before the five-mile walk Ms Van Outen, of Tenterden, said: "I've been involved in the charity for a few years since I lost my grandmother to cancer. I did my first walk about four or five years ago.

"I've done three in this country but I have done a lot abroad. These walks are really important as they bring women together on a local level who can share stories and support eachother."

The 41-year-old added: "It's such a brilliant charity especially as the statistics rise. It offers a brilliant support network and any donation however large or small is greatly appreciated."

Everyone who took part was given a pink ribbon on which to write a message of support or a personal experience.

More than 15,000 previously completed ribbons flanked the start line.

In 11 years the charity's ribbonwalks, which take place across the country and this year include six events, have attracted 30,000 participants and raised £9.7million.
