Search for missing Maidstone pensioner Dennis Whyard, 89, continues

A CCTV image has been released as officers step up their hunt for a pensioner reported missing from his Maidstone home.

Dennis Whyard, 89, was reported missing from the Forest Hill area of the town at 4.05pm on Friday, but was then spotted on CCTV shortly before 7pm in the St Peter's area.

A huge search operation has been launched over the weekend, including rescue boats on the River Medway, specialist search dogs and more than 40 search officers making their way through the county town.

A police helicopter was also used yesterday but Mr Whyard remains missing, much to officers' concern.

Search teams have been urging the public to remain vigilant and to check any outbuildings in case he sought shelter overnight.

Chief Inspector Chris Mayers said: "We have not had a confirmed sighting of Dennis since Friday.

"We are working hard to try and piece together his movements and are concerned for his welfare.

"This image may jog someone’s memory and provide the crucial information we need to locate him.

"I would also ask people to check their gardens, sheds and outbuildings for Dennis; he may have stopped to take refuge.

"Though our search efforts are concentrated in the Maidstone area, Dennis has been known to travel some distance, he may have money on him to pay for a bus, train or taxi.

"So cast your mind back, study the pictures and contact us immediately if you can help us find him."

Mr Whyard is white, about 5ft 8in, with short grey hair, and is wearing a navy blue jacket, yellow shirt, and navy blue trousers.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call police on 101, quoting 01-0938.
