A care home for the elderly and sufferers of dementia has made the urgent improvements following a bad inspection.

The Maidstone Care Centre, in Boxley Road, fell short in five of eight standards of excellence following an inspection from independent regulator the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in June.

If immediate action was not taken it was warned it could face disciplinary measures, but a return visit in October found all five shortcomings had been amended.

Rob Rai, a director of service provider Ranc Care Homes, said: “We are delighted to achieve full compliancy by CQC and will continue to strive towards even higher standards in the future.”

The main concern in the initial report was a lack of staff and inadequate training.

Nine care workers and an activities co-ordinator have since been recruited.

The CQC has deemed all of these changes have led to an improvement in the welfare of residents.

A spokesman from the care regulator said: “We are always pleased to see services improve – but nobody should be complacent about this.

"The CQC will keep monitoring the home to ensure that it continues to deliver acceptable standards of care – and will not hesitate to inspect this, or any other, home again unannounced if it appears standards may not be being met.”
