Cancer battler throws house party

A mother-of-five has opened her home for the third time to raise money to treat a disease which she continues to fight.

Kim Weedon holds a fundraising event at her home in Snodland every two years in aid of Maidstone Hospital’s Breast Care Centre.

For the fun day in 2008, Mrs Weeden was a cancer survivor and collected £1,500 to help people suffering with the illness.

Sadly this year she is one of the patients who will benefit from the donations made at the event where she put on a brave face to host.

The bubbly 52-year-old finished treatment for her last bout with breast cancer in January and had high hopes it would be the final time.

However by August, doctors detected the disease was back.

Mrs Weedon, of Taylor Road, has been told the secondary cancer is incurable but can be treated to reduce it.

She said: "I’ve always been very positive and I will continue to be. The centre has been so good to me and I have no doubt it won’t be anything less this time. What they do there is just brilliant.

"I hold these days as it’s my way of saying thank you. This year was fantastic, as is every year. I’m very grateful to everyone that came and for the generosity and support they have shown to me.”

Around 70 people joined Mrs Weeden and her family for the occasion at the weekend, and helped contribute £1,700 for the cause.
