Bus stop mugger grabs £3,000

A 76-year-old woman was mugged and had nearly £3,000 stolen from her as she waited at a bus stop.

The money, in a black bag, was the takings from a club. The incident happened at about 12.35pm on Monday (August 7) in Wallis Avenue, Parkwood, Maidstone.

A police spokesman said: "Whilst waiting at the bus stop, she states that she felt the bag being tugged from behind. The bag was eventually pulled from her, causing her to fall backwards, sustaining a slight head injury.

"The offender was then said to have made off towards the rear of a parade of shops.

"Witnesses describe the alleged offender as being a blond-haired man, wearing a black t-shirt and black trousers."

Anyone with any further information about the incident or anyone who may have witnesses it, is asked to call Maidstone Police Station 01622 604180 or call Kent Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
