Maidstone: Bride stranded on M20 after bridge collapses made it to her wedding

A bride-to-be who missed her wedding while she was stranded in traffic chaos on the M20 has revealed she managed to get married after all.

Lisa Cobbold was on her way to the ceremony, at The Black Horse in Thurnham, when a pedestrian footbridge collapsed onto the motorway last weekend.

She was due to get hitched at 2pm, but was still stuck on the tarmac when she was supposed to be saying I do to fiance Jake Kendall.

Miss Cobbold hit the headlines after being pictured with players from Needham Market FC, who told her she could use the toilet on their coach.

The footballers, who were on their way to a match against Folkestone Invicta, then took to social media to try and trace the mystery bride-to-be to find out if she had made it to the venue on time.

This week the team confirmed they had managed to track her down - and had good news.

While Lisa, now Mrs Kendall, arrived an hour and a half late, the registrar agreed to perform the ceremony at 4pm instead.

The newlyweds are now enjoying their honeymoon in Las Vegas.

Father of the bride Steve Cobbold told the club that Lisa was very touched by their concern that all turned out well.

A statement on their website said: "The football club passes on its congratulations to Jake and Lisa and wishes them all the best for the future."

The coast-bound section of the bridge has since been removed from over the motorway, and an investigation is taking place into what led to the collapse.

Tailbacks reached 15 miles at their height.
