At least 30 firefighters were called to tackle a boat fire on the River Medway.

Five pumps, a water unit, an inflatable boat team and a command support unit, arrived at the scene at around 4.55pm yesterday.

They spent about an hour fighting the flames on a narrow boat moored in Allington, Maidstone.

The blaze caused severe damage on the 60ft vessel.

The fire was extinguished by 6.05pm but crews stayed at the scene for another hour to ensure the area was safe.
