Man taken to hospital after boat fire near Bowbridge Marina in Wateringbury

A man has been taken to hospital with burns after a fire destroyed a boat in Wateringbury today.

Fire crews were called to near the Bowbridge Marina, in Bow Road, at about 11.45am.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service said 10 firefighters used a hose reel jet to tackle a blaze on the small boat.

The man, in his 50s, was treated for burns to his shoulders and arms. He was taken to the Tunbridge Wells Hospital for further treatement.

The fire is believed to have been caused by a fault in the engine. The boat was wrecked and recovered by the Environment Agency.

Fire crews left the scene after around an hour.
