A man has died after his motorcycle crashed on the M26 in Kent last night.

The 44-year-old's bike is said to have smashed into the central reservation at around 7.25pm.

He suffered severe injuries and was taken to King's College Hospital, where he later died.

The man, from Surrey, had been travelling with two other bikers from Margate when the accident happened.

His Honda CBR 600 bike hit the barrier on the Surrey-bound carriageway of the M26.

The crash led to long delays as police closed the carriageway until late in the evening.

DS Scott Lynch, from Kent Police, said: "This motorcycle was travelling with two other motorcycles from the Margate area and back to Surrey.

"We would like to speak to anyone who either witnessed the collision or saw the three motorcycles prior to the incident."

Witnesses or anyone with information is asked to phone the Kent Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 01622 798538.
