Take That's Gary Barlow birthday surprise for Maidstone mum Jo Chapman for 40th birthday

Gary Barlow gave a Maidstone mum a birthday she will 'Never Forget', after turning up to sing at a party to mark her 40th.

The star serenaded superfan Jo Chapman with a rendition of Greatest Day, after surprising her at the milestone bash last night.

She had spent months rallying friends and family behind a campaign to get to meet her idol, including putting posters up in her car, on lampposts and friends’ windows.

Mrs Chapman, of Morris Close in Boughton Monchelsea, even tweeted the singer around 40 times a day.

She told Kent Online: "When he walked through the door I just thought 'oh my God.' I couldn't believe it. I just screamed like a lunatic and ran over to him.

"I was surprised I was still conscious. It was just unbelievable, I'm still in shock.

"Some people that saw it online thought it was a wind up and that it was an impersonator, so I had to show them a tweet Gary had sent me afterwards to prove it.

"Never in a million years did I think he'd actually come. The DJ played my favourite Take That song Everything Changes and when that finished I thought 'well that's it now.'

"Then Greatest Day started and I saw him. It's still sinking in that I met him."

Mrs Chapman's friend Suzi Cooper had been contacted by Barlow's team around three weeks before the event to make arrangements, but had managed to keep her friend and other guests in the dark.

After the party, at Civil Service Sports and Social Club in Recreation Close, Mrs Chapman took to social media to say: "I haven't even begun to process this yet! Words can't express how i feel!I love you," next to a picture of Barlow.

Her daughter Phoebe tweeted the star: "Thank you so much for coming to my mums party, it was flipping amazing and I'll never forget it."

Last year the Take That frontman hit the headlines for turning up unannounced to sing at people’s weddings. But this year he told his 4.2m Twitter followers 2016 would be a year for surprising fans on their birthdays instead.

He tweeted after Jo's party to say that hers was the first he had attended this year.

Mrs Chapman saw her first live Take That gig at Wembley Arena in 1994 and has been a big fan ever since, even naming her cat Barlow.
