M20 shut between Maidstone and Aylesford and two men arrested after head-on crash

Two van drivers have been arrested after a head-on crash on a slip road caused the M20 to be shut this morning.

Fire crews helped free two people who were hurt in the crash which happened on the slip road at Junction 5 on the coastbound carriageway at around 5am.

It is believed the crash happened as one of the vehicles travelled the wrong way down the slip road.

A police spokesman said: "Police were called to a three vehicle collision on a slip road for the M20 coastbound at junction 5 at 5.13am.

"The vehicles involved were a car and a van and officers were in attendance alongside crews from the South East Coast Ambulance Service.

"One man has been taken to a London hospital with a chest injury and another two people were taken to local hospitals.

"Two people have been arrested by officers investigating the collision.

"They are a 24-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and a 35-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

"Both remain in custody as inquiries continue."
