Andy Ford focused on Maidstone United picking up points

Victory over Harrow Borough at Homelands on Saturday could see Maidstone out of the Ryman League Premier Division drop zone – but you won’t hear that from Stones boss Andy Ford.

He said: "I honestly don’t look at the table. We had a good result the other day but it is important that we follow it up with another one. Back-to-back results in this division make the difference."

Stones beat Hastings 2-1 on Saturday to move within a point of safety and relegation rivals Croydon Athletic have been docked three points for fielding an ineligible player but Ford said: "I’m not going to worry about other people who have had points deducted, who’s brought in new players, who’s in good form, whatever. I just worry about us. What will be, will be."

Ford welcomed back striker Danny Hockton, who scored his ninth league goal of the campaign at Hastings, and long-term injury victim Simon Glover on Saturday, and hopes the pair can combine with new arrival Jay Saunders to provide the experience to get the Stones out of trouble.

Saunders could start against Harrow, if he has overcome a bout of flu but Michael Phillips (knee) remains out and Glover could feature, if only from the bench

The Kent Senior Trophy tie with Ebbsfleet is rescheduled for Tuesday.

Ford said: "I am desperate for that game to go ahead. I think I will commit hari-kari if the pitch gets waterlogged again. It is an important game for us because I want to have a look at five or six players.

"It’s just not possible to judge a player based on training and a lot of these players have come to us on recommendations so I want to have a look with my own eyes."
