Alan Walker and Lloyd Hume have spoken of the ‘frustration’ and ‘disillusionment’ with Maidstone's off-field affairs which led them to resign on Monday.

The club’s parlous state - homeless, with dwindling gates at their temporary home at Ashford and players and staff being asked to defer wages to the end of the season - took its toll on the management team that enjoyed a largely successful six years at the club.

Walker, pictured, admitted: "I became a bit disillusioned with the club. To be honest, I have been worn down by the demands of the job. There is not one single factor, it is the combination of a lot of things. It was becoming difficult to do the job considering the club’s problems.

"We’ve been having to deal with things that managers at this level should not have to deal with."

Hume said: "The job was becoming increasingly frustrating. With all the problems off the field, I felt we would struggle to take the club forward."

The pair are due to meet chairman Paul Bowden-Brown next week to resolve outstanding financial issues including 10-weeks' deferred pay.

Walker added: "It is a great club and a great job for someone else, maybe with more time - Maidstone has been like a full-time job. I will go to an away
game and see the players to say my proper goodbyes.

"It would be fantastic to be in the crowd for the first home game when they return to Maidstone."
