Schoolchildren are being urged to wear their funkiest footwear to school on Friday to help raise money for the county's air ambulance.

Air Ambulance Week, which started today, includes Funky Footwear Friday, which has already seen famous footwear donated to the Marden-based charity to support the cause.

Chelsea and England stars John Terry and Frank Lampard have donated a pair of football boots each to the charity's footwear auction which runs until Sunday.

Staff and volunteers will be out in force collecting for the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance.

On Friday the charity is hoping people will wear their most outrageous footwear in return for a suggested donation of £1.

The helicopters in Marden and Surrey have flown a combined total of almost 900 missions in the last year, relying entirely on public donations.

To donate to the air ambulance call 01622 833833.
