80 jobs at risk at university

Eighty staff at the University for the Creative Arts (UCA), which has a campus in Oakwood Park, Maidstone, could lose their jobs next month.

The cuts, identified following a review, would save £750,000 across its five campuses in Kent and Surrey.

A statement said the cuts would secure its long-term sustainability and allow it to continue investing in the student learning experience.

The university, which changed its name from the University College for the Creative Arts (UCCA) last year, also has campuses in Rochester and Maidstone.

Bosses are currently in consultation with trade unions to explore a full range of options aimed at minimising compulsory redundancies, including relocating staff.

Final decisions are expected in February.

The university employs 840 people across its five campuses.
