600 cannabis plants found in Maidstone home

More than 600 cannabis plants, worth nearly £50,000, have been seized by police following a dawn raid by police.

Officers swooped on a property in Heathorn Street, Maidstone in the early hours of Sunday, January 31.

They were alerted by officers on foot patrol in the area who smelt cannabis emanating from the address and noticed large amounts of condensation on the windows.

Further investigations showed signs of an internal irrigation system.

Following a search of the property, officers found the entire top floor had been converted for the cultivation of cannabis, which when fully grown could reap an estimated street value of up to £48,000.

Sgt Richard Owen said: "We are determined to crack down on drugs wherever they occur, to prevent them from getting to the streets. Officers followed their training and their noses on this one, as the cannabis gave off a pungent odour, but it paid off, leading to an excellent seizure. Anyone with information on this or other drug related crime is asked to contact Maidstone Police on 01622 690690 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
