Youngsters get chance to take up grasstrack racing

THE Kent Youth Grasstrack Racing Association (KYGTRA) has been relaunched in a bid to provide youngsters with a chance to break into the sport.

The first KYGTRA meeting for 10 years was held recently at Moor Lane and was a great success.

Youngsters have often complained that there is little opportunity any more for them to learn the sport and gain the experience at local level to one day advance in the sport.

There has been no youth oriented clubs available to young riders in Kent for several years so it was decided to resurrect the famous KYGTRA Club to see what sort of interest there was.

The first meeting at Moor Lane last month proved a huge success with some terrific racing from the youngsters.

One of the organisers, Tony Betteridge, said: "What we are trying to do through the club is promote motorcycle racing, which will give the kids an interest and the opportunity to be a part of a sport instead of them standing around street corners bored with nothing to do."
