GRAVESHAM Fencing Club’s Peter Barwell claimed his fourth national title in five years after winning the under-16 championship in Stoke-on-Trent.

The 15-year-old, from Chatham, won a number of fights before facing his team-mate James Davis in the final.

He said: "I knew what his strengths and weaknesses were and he knew what mine were. It was very difficult as we have been training with each other for years."

Alex Makucewicz took 22nd place, while Callum Gandolfi finished 44th in the same category.

Ten-year-old Rajan Rai fenced well to finish in ninth place in the under-12 event, having won the under-10 title last year.

In his first national attempt, Thomas Golby finished 54th in the under-12 event.

In the seniors, Miles Gandolfi was 17th in the under-18 boys, while Ellie Wooding finished 18th in the under-18 girls.
