Wings fire blanks in stalemate

Welling 0 Dorchester 0

Welling were held to their second consecutive goalless draw after failing to make the most of a bright start against Dorchester on Saturday.

The Wings should have sewn the points up inside the first 15 minutes but contrived to miss five excellent opportunities.

Lee Blackburn's shot was deflected wide within a minute and seconds later Ryan Martin went clean through only to see his chip saved by keeper Gareth Stewart.

In the third minute, Ellis Green's left-wing corner was met by Matthew McEntegart at the far post - but he diverted his header wide of the target.

Green himself blazed wide of the near post after neat work by Martin and Dorian Smith, before Blackburn again failed to make the most of a dangerous Green cross.

The second half was dominated possession-wise by the visitors but, like the Wings, they lacked a cutting edge.

Substitute Mitch Nicholson went clean through but was denied by keeper Scott Andrews only for Nick Crittenden to fire the rebound wide of the near post.

Welling struggled to reach the same heights as the first half, although Frankie Chappell headed over late on and substitute Sol Pinnock produced a weak finish in stoppage time.
