Welling United v Barkingside

WELLING manager Neil Smith has warned his players not to under-estimate Essex League Barkingside on Saturday.

The Wings start their FA Cup campaign with a favourable second qualifying round draw at Park View Road.

But Smith stressed: "I don’t want to be the one who picks up the paper next week and is reading about a shock defeat.

"Barkingside will come over thinking it is their cup final, but this is our cup final really – every round of the FA Cup should be for us."

New signings Ross Montague, Marlon Patterson, Jerome Boyce and Ellis Green can all play in the match.

Three of the four players made their debuts last weekend, while Green did not play under the terms of his return from Eastleigh.

Montague is on an initial one-month loan from Brentford, Patterson joined from Dagenham & Redbridge and Boyce has been training with the Wings since the start of the season having played at Gravesend and Wivenhoe.

Green quit Welling in the summer but jumped at the chance of a return after being frozen out at Eastleigh.

"I wanted Ellis to stay at the club in the summer but he opted to move," said Smith.

"Now he says he made a mistake and is big enough to ask for another chance."

The flurry of new arrivals has seen Steve May join Dulwich, Michael Johnson released and Daniel Maxwell link up with Billericay.
