PENNOCK: "People know that their places in the team are not guaranteed"

Welling United v Braintree Town

WELLING boss Adrian Pennock has praised recalled captain Chris Moore and right-back Mark Goodfellow.

Both players have been axed in the first month of the season but they produced much-improved displays in last week's defeat at Salisbury.

The Wings boss had made no secret of his desire to bring in new faces but the positive response from Moore and Goodfellow could put his transfer activity on hold.

Pennock said: "People know that their places in the team are not guaranteed.

"I thought Chris Moore came in and did a good job for us. Both him and Mark have been working hard in training, their heads haven't dropped and it showed.

"Mark knows that he wasn't fit enough but they are both motivated and want to do well."

Pennock praised the work-rate of his players at Salisbury last week and is keen to get back to winning ways.

"We need to collect three points at home but it’s going to be a difficult game against another promoted side," said Pennock, who confirmed that there was no interest in any of his squad before last week’s transfer window closed.

Che Stadhart (calf) is in contention but Andrew Sam (ankle) is likely to miss out.
