FORMER Gravesend & Northfleet midfielder Steve Perkins will sign for Nationwide Conference South side Welling United on Wednesday.

Perkins, who scored both goals in Welling's 2-0 win at Bromley, had attracted interest from a host of clubs and the deal seemed in the balance earlier this week.

But Welling manager Adrian Pennock has confirmed that he has agreed to move to Park View Road.

"Steve is a good player who gives us a lot of options," said Pennock, who worked with Perkins at Gravesend before the midfielder left to travel around the world in May 2003.

"Lewes manager Steve King watched him at Bromley last Friday and was interested, as were St Albans and Crawley.

"But Steve Perkins said a lot of nice things about us and I'm delighted that he has joined Welling."

Perkins will make his debut in the season opener at home to St Albans on Saturday.
