Wings back to winning ways

Goal: Graeme Andrews
Goal: Graeme Andrews

Bishop's Stortford 0 Welling 1

A freak goal by defender Graeme Andrews 17 mintues from time ended Welling's eight-match winless run on Saturday.

Andrews's cross, 40 yards from goal, caught the wind and sailed over the head of home keeper Nicky Eyre to hand Welling their first Blue Square South win since late August.

Chances were few and far between in a game dominated by the swirling wind although Welling's improved work-rate and determination would have pleased their strong away support.

Bishop's Stortford went closest to scoring in the 28th minute but Tony Sinclair cleared Danny Harris's close-range effort off the line.

The Wings will point to a penalty claim that went unanswered after skipper Rob Quinn, recalled to the starting line up, was clipped in the box.

Once ahead, the Wings did not appear to be in danger and keeper Jamie Turner was rarely called into action during the 90 minutes.
