Unbeaten Kent clinch promotion at tennis county week

Kent Ladies went through the week unbeaten to clinch the Division 3 title during County Week at Worthing Tennis Club.

Having spent two years in the wilderness of Division 4, Kent were promoted last year despite losing one match.

There were no slip ups along the way this year and, after steam-rolling Oxfordshire 9-0 on the opening day, they continued with an 8-1 win over Dorset, a 5-4 narrow defeat of Berkshire and a magnificent 8-1 victory over Yorkshire.

They then faced Devon, who were also unbeaten and favourites to take the title. The first round saw them 2-1 down, which went to 3-1 before they raised their game to go into the final round all-square at three rubbers apiece.

Kent were excellent in the final round snatching the two wins necessary to give them the match, the championship and promotion back to Division 2 in 2009.
