Simeon Jackson netted his 12th goal of the season in the 2-1 FA Cup defeat to Aston Villa, but the result was all he could think about.

“It was a great feeling as every goal I score is,” he said after netting Gillingham’s 59th minute equaliser.

“It’s the best feeling to be scoring goals but the result didn’t work our way.

“It was a good feeling to score, especially at the Rainham End, it was lovely. But it was sweet and sour as we didn’t get the draw.”

Gillingham came close to taking the tie back to Villa Park, but it wasn’t to be and Jackson now has his thoughts set on helping the side get promoted from League 2.

He said: “I thought everyone performed very well and if we can keep that up in the league then it will take us where we want to be.

“The league’s the most important thing and that’s our priority.

“It was a good test for me to be playing against defenders who are up against top strikers every week and it was good to see where you are compared to them. You could see they had quality all over the pitch and it was a good test for us."
