Gillingham manager Mark Stimson has revealed he is on the look-out for a new centre-back, but if he doesn’t find one by the weekend then Mark Bentley will continue in the role.

The Gills have been left with Simon King as their only recognised senior central defender following the suspension of Garry Richards, who misses the next two games, and the return to Tottenham of loanee Leigh Mills.

He said: “We’re always looking to improve and if someone becomes available that suits us then we might do something.

“I won’t bring in someone for the sake of it. I’ve been getting names thrown at me but we’ll wait and see.”

Stimson will take another look at free agent Micah Hyde next week and is planning to arrange an in-house match before deciding whether to offer the midfielder a deal.
