Stimson: I won't set points target

Gillingham v Yeovil

MANAGER Mark Stimson is refusing to set a points target for his Gillingham side as the battle for League 1 survival hots up.

The Gills take on Yeovil Town at the Priestfield Stadium on Saturday and Stimson will be hoping his side can put some daylight between themselves and the chasing pack.

He said: "As long as we're out of the relegation zone at the end of the season then that's the most important thing.

"Whatever amount of points that is, who knows? If I said a certain amount of points now that could be beaten.

"We've just got to go out and try and win every game between now and the end of the season."

Yeovil go into the game on the back of a 3-0 defeat against Oldham on Saturday but Stimson has warned his players to keep a close eye on striker Lloyd Owusu.

He said: "In their eyes they've probably had a couple of disappointing results recently and will be looking to turn that round. We had a good result last weekend and want to build on that.

"Lloyd Owusu is someone who will want to score. He gets in the box and can be a pest if you don’t look after him.

"Marcus Stewart is also a good player for them. He's a clever player and can do good things with the ball. We'll have to be aware of him but I always say it is about us and what we do. If we’re on our game and we play well then I don't really care who the opposition is."

Mark Bentley (Achilles/ankle) will miss the game through injury while Dennis Oli (knee) is expected to be available.
