Gills boss Martin Allen admits there are still some internal disciplinary matters to take care of.

And he plans to get to grips with those on Monday. Allen has spent the last fortnight getting Gillingham back on track behind the scenes after what he described as a “slip in standards.”

He said: “There are other bits and pieces that have occurred and are in the front of my mind and I will deal with them privately and quietly.

“I don’t rant and rave and shout, I just deliver how it has got to be done and that will be done on Monday. There will be changes.

“As to the 18 (in the first team squad) – I am delighted but there will be other bits and pieces that have to be improved to make it better and make our club better.”

Those 18 remained unchanged at the weekend, as expected and Allen said: “There has been a difference in the standards.

“If we improve the standards off the field, I promised them and guaranteed them it would change on the pitch. If you let it slacken off the pitch, it will slacken on the pitch.

“I had to do something about it and the players have responded magnificently. We should be proud of them but it is just two wins.”
