Starting role for Johnson against Walsall?

TOMMY JOHNSON: Likely to partner Sidibe
TOMMY JOHNSON: Likely to partner Sidibe

GILLINGHAM striker Rod Wallace is suffering from a recurrence of a calf injury and is unlikely to play in Saturday's home game against Walsall.

Tommy Johnson, who replaced him after 78 minutes in Saturday's goalless draw at Stoke, is likely to replace him alongside Mamady Sidibe up front.

Player-manager Andy Hessenthaler remains doubtful with a hamstring strain but Barry Ashby and Simon Osborn are expected to report fit.

Skipper Paul Smith has admitted that with the promotion play-offs out of reach, games will be difficult when there is little resting on the outcome.

Smith, speaking ahead of Saturday's match, said: “We can't get into the play-offs and we've got teams coming here who are in the same position as us. So it's going to be hard when there is nothing to play for.

But we're aware that we have an obligation to our supporters who pay good money to see us play.”

Gillingham are operating a kids for a quid scheme on Saturday which applies to all youngsters accompanied by an adult.
