CHARLTON failed to find a breakthrough against Aston Villa at The Valley on Saturday.

Chances were few and far between in a dour affair.

Darren Ambrose came closest for the home side 10 minutes into the second half but his shot from the edge of the penalty area was saved by Villa keeper Thomas Sorensen.

Just before that, Villa could have taken the lead with their best chance, but Thomas Myhre did well to hold Liam Ridgewell's header after the defender had risen well to meet James Milner's corner.

Charlton: Myhre, Young, Perry, Hreidarsson, Spector, Ambrose, Kishishev, Holland (El Karkouri 72), Hughes (Euell 62), M Bent (Bothroyd 57), D Bent.
Subs Not Used: Andersen, Powell.
Attendance: 26, 594.
