Speedway side lifted by loan signing

SITTINGBOURNE AC Associates Crusaders Speedway team have been boosted by the news that Peter Collyer is signing on loan from Wimbledon Dons for the rest of 2005.

The 23-year-old former Reading Racer finished fifth in the Conference League Riders Championship final in 1999 when a Rye House rider, but has fallen out of favour this season with the south London outfit.

However, he made a hugely impressive return to the track in the recent Four Team tournament at Plough Lane.

Collyer, who is classified as a Grade Seven rider, will sign for Crusaders ahead of this weekend's League double-header.

He said: "It will be great to get back into action again. I've got good machinery now and my confidence has been boosted by my performance [in the Four Team tournament] when I won two of my four races and also by Sittingbourne's faith in me.

"I'm looking forward to helping the side in our crucial last few matches of the season."
