Specialist treatment for injured Gooden

GILLINGHAM'S long-term injury casualty Ty Gooden has seen specialist Dennis Edwards in Cambridge in a fresh attempt to determine the cause of a persistent ankle problem.

The midfielder, whose last first team appearance was at Walsall on March 30, broke down again last week playing for the reserves against Portsmouth.

Mr Edwards is credited with saving the career of defender Adrian Pennock after he ruptured cruciate knee ligaments at Birmingham in October last year.

Meanwhile, Gills striker Mamady Sidibe flies out this week to link up with the Mali squad - even though he is injured.

Mali’s national coach wants to keep him involved in preparations for forthcoming African Nations Cup ties.

He returns to Priestfield next Tuesday and could be in contention for the home game against Watford on October 19.
